Sapphire series — A55, A65, A85

The deep-penetration end of the range: 8.5 mm single-pass, 24-hour duty, and it does not care that your shop is 45 °C.

8.5 mm single-pass and multi-wire feeding to an 8 mm seam. The heaviest handheld in the range.

Machine weights are the chassis as shipped. Add the gas cylinder, spool and torch for the working weight you will actually lift.

Single-pass penetration

The number that decides the model

Manufacturer figures on a fitted joint. Gaps, mill scale and coating all reduce these — ask for a sample weld on your material before you decide.

Brass and copper are supported as base metal at reduced depth. Copper above 1–3.5 mm is a different tool category; tell us the material mix before ordering.

Engineering

What you are paying for

01

45 °C ambient, 24-hour duty

The liquid circuit is built for continuous industrial shifts, not a duty cycle you have to schedule around. If your shop in July is 43 °C and the machine runs two shifts, this is the reason to pay for liquid cooling.

02

8.5 mm single-pass on A85

Deepest handheld penetration in the Han's Laser range. It is still a handheld torch, not a gantry — but it removes the pre-bevel that 8 mm plate normally needs before TIG.

03

Multi-wire feeding to an 8 mm seam

One, two or three wires depending on the seam. Wide gaps that would need backing or a second pass on a single-wire machine close in one go. This matters more on tanks and vessels than the penetration number does.

04

QCS quick-change torch, under 480 g

The collimated QCS interface lets you swap the torch without re-aligning optics, and the torch itself stays under 480 g so an operator can hold it all shift. Replaceable protective and focusing lenses.

05

Power fluctuation specified within 3%

The manufacturer specifies power fluctuation within 3%, with automatic power calibration. That is the figure in the parameter table and the only one we quote. Ask for the test report on the model you are buying rather than comparing headline percentages between sellers — a stability number without a test method is decoration.

06

3000+ performance, 800+ function, 100+ reliability tests

The manufacturer's own qualification counts per unit. Quoted here because it is a checkable claim on their documentation — not because a test count tells you how the machine performs on your parts.

What the data sheet does not tell you

  • 45 to 55 kg is a two-person lift. It has castors and it is compact, but this is not a machine you carry up a scaffold. If your work is mostly on site, the Red Crystal or Black Crystal lines are the honest answer.
  • Liquid cooling means a liquid circuit. Coolant has to be maintained, and the chiller needs airflow. In a dusty shop, that is a maintenance item, not a fit-and-forget feature.
  • 8.5 mm assumes a fitted joint. The A85 will not do 8.5 mm through a 1 mm gap or through heavy mill scale. On gapped plate, expect to prepare the joint like any other process.
  • Brass tops out at 5.5 mm and copper at 3.5 mm on the A85. Deep brass and copper are a different tool category. Tell us the material mix before you order, not after.
  • Air-cooled vs liquid-cooled is a siting decision, not a quality decision. Both lines are built to the same test regime. Choose by ambient temperature, duty cycle and whether the machine moves.

Certification

What is documented

CEFDAFCCMD

Certificates are issued per model. The actual documents, with certificate numbers, are sent with the quotation for the model you order.

Running costs

Consumables are the real cost

Protective lenses, focusing lenses and copper nozzles. The Sapphire torch uses replaceable focusing optics as well as the protective lens, so the running-cost profile is slightly different from the air-cooled line — we will send the interval sheet with the machine.

FAQ

Sapphire A55 / A65 / A85 questions

Which Sapphire model do I need?

By seam width first, then depth. A55 covers 5.5 mm single-pass with one wire — most stainless tank and frame work. A65 adds dual-wire feeding to a 6 mm seam and 6.5 mm depth. A85 is for 8.5 mm plate and 8 mm seams, where you would otherwise be bevelling and doing two passes.

Why liquid cooling instead of air?

Two reasons: ambient temperature and duty cycle. The Sapphire line is rated to 45 °C ambient and continuous 24-hour operation; the air-cooled Red Crystal line is rated to 40 °C. If your shop is in the Gulf or Southeast Asia and runs long shifts, liquid cooling is not an upgrade — it is the correct specification.

Can the A85 really do 8.5 mm in one pass?

On a fitted, clean joint at the manufacturer's test parameters, yes. On field work with mill scale, coating or a gap, no process holds its book figure. Ask us to weld a sample of your material and send you the macro photograph before you commit — that is a more useful number than any table.

What is multi-wire feeding for?

Wide seams. A single 1.2 mm wire fills a narrow gap; on a 6–8 mm seam you either make several passes or feed two or three wires at once. Multi-wire is why the A65 and A85 exist as separate models rather than a power upgrade.

Is the torch interchangeable with the Red Crystal line?

Both use the same under-480 g class of torch and the same QCS quick-change interface on the liquid-cooled models, but the cooling path differs. Torches and consumables are ordered per line — tell us which machine when you reorder nozzles.

How long is the warranty and what does it exclude?

Twelve months, optical consumables excluded. Failures caused by arc-welding interference on the same site are excluded. Plan your grounding and physical separation accordingly.

Tell us material and thickness

One number and one material is enough for us to name a model — and to say so when the honest answer is a different line.
