Laser solutions for sheet metal fabrication

Where 0.5–4 mm stainless and carbon sheet gets welded every day: less distortion, less grinding, and a seam an operator can repeat.

Sheet Metal Fabrication — laser application

The job

Sheet Metal Fabrication

Sheet metal shops live on a contradiction: the customer wants a seam that looks machined, and the schedule wants it out the door today. TIG gives you the finish but the arc time and the grinding afterwards eat the margin. Handheld laser welding changes the arithmetic on the 0.5–4 mm range that most enclosures, cabinets, machine guards and stainless fabrications live in — a narrow heat-affected zone means less pull and distortion, a faster pass means less arc time, and a cleaner bead means less grinding. Where it does not help is thin cosmetic work below 1 mm, where TIG still wins on appearance, and anything over 4 mm in a single pass, which is water-cooled territory.

  • 0.5–4 mm stainless, carbon and galvanised sheet
  • Corner, lap and fillet joints with filler wire where the gap needs bridging
  • Less distortion on visible panels — the grinding that follows is the real cost saving
  • One operator, single-phase power on the air-cooled models
